Question suggestions for new glass

I'm shopping around for new glass. I've shot two weddings, at both I was challenged with low light situations so I really want a fast 50 mm prime for my Canon 60D. I'm stuck in a debate between about 3 choices. There's a $200 price difference in the f1.8 and f1.4. Do you think that small of a difference in aperture would really be worth the price difference? I'm also debating on whether or not to just wait til I can shell out the big $ (about $1500 from what I see) for the f1.2 L series. Opinions, suggestions? I'd be especially interested in hearing from someone who owns a 50mm prime and what they think about it. All feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I haven't owned a 50mm. but I can say i looked at both the Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 and the Carl Ziess 50mm f/1.4 both are only around $700 so not sure where you are getting the $1500 price tag. Unless you are thinking of the 85mm f/1.4 Id get that for a full frame camera. Otherwise the 50mm is fine. What are you shooting with? (nevermind i just noticed you said 60D) so 50mm is fine $700 will do ya unless you want auto focus then get the Canon 50mm f/1.4 for around $400. less if you have an internal focusing motor.

Default thanks

thank you. I think I'm gonna spend the extra $200 for the f1.4. Some of the reviews listed that it has sharper pic quality and less distortion, so I feel like that justifies the price difference for me.

I'm a Canon 50mm F1.8 owner and sometimes I wish I would gave purchased the 1.4 version.

A lot of the info in the above post, re autofocus and $$$ etc, relates to Nikon - not Canon

Wow you're right. You are getting raped by Canon with their 50mm 1.2 price. more than twice as much as the Nikkor lens... It has an $800 auto focus motor, but seriously... If im using this for portraits, hopefully my clients aren't moving in and out of focus at such high speed that I cant keep up. I like manual focus even if i have the option for auto because it is sometimes quicker than chosing an AF point and waiting for the camera, or focusing and then re composing the image.

I can't believe they want $800 for an auto focus motor hahahahaha!

Just going to suggest, If aperture is more important then AF, you can get FD mount 50 f/1.2s with adapters for $200. They are also built like tanks.

what is an FD mount? I was looking at the 1.2 but i don't think it is as important as good quality 1.4 which is why I decided to lose a half/stop and get the Carl Zeiss 50mm 1.4. I think I'll just wait and get it for christmas.

I was wondering what an FD mount is myself by the way.
