Unhappy Canon 5D power failure

A Canon 5D that I have is refusing to power up. It is showing no sign of life what-so-ever. I have tried different batteries and batteries that work okay in another 5D. Has anybody else experienced similar problems or more importantly does anybody know of a fix.

All the best

Default Outcome

Hi John

I just had this last weekend during a job.

Thinking it was a battery problem, I then gave up.

But reading this thread gives me a little hope.

What was the outcome of sending it to the repair centre?

Thanks

I answered this in the other thread and the post I made recently.

But the Hail Mary pass you always do when your camera dies completely is the following:

1) Pull the memory card, lens, and battery (or batteries) from the camera. Try others. If that doesn't work, pull everything out again.

2) Wait a few hours (or overnight to be super safe) for all electricity to dissipate from the camera. This will (hopefully) reset the system.

3) Get a freshly charged battery, and try and see if the camera turns on and behaves.

If it does, then slowly add each other element (card, lens) back into the mix, to see if they might be causing the issue. If the card causes issues, check that you haven't bent any pins in the card slot, another card, and reformatting the card in the camera.

If the lens causes an issue, try cleaning the lens contacts and remounting.

If nothing works, then it's time to go to Canon Service.

This worked for me with my 5Dii; it didn't work with my XT/350D (which, bizarrely, had the opposite problem: it wouldn't turn OFF unless I pulled the battery. Turned out the power board had been fried and needed replacing).
