Hi guys,
I got my Canon EOS 450D last year in April and only now really have the time to make good use of it. So, last night I went out for some night-time photography and oh horror, my shots have a red pixel! First I thought it was dust, but then I googled it and found out that it's a dead pixel. Well, obviously I'm not happy about it. My question is: What do I do now? I guess I could send it to Canon for them to repair it, but does this fall under warranty and if so, how long is the standard warranty for Canon in Europe anyway? If not, how much would I have to pay and how long would it take? And is it really worth it? After all I don't take so many night-time shots and I can just photoshop the pixel away, right? What do you guys think? Thanks

Just to be clear, it's a dead (or stuck or hot) pixel on the sensor, right? Like, you download the photos and they're present on the monitor, not just the camera's review lcd?
The Dust Delete Data function is supposed to be able to work around that, if you use the Digital Photo Professional program to import your photos. Canon CPN - Dust Delete Data - YouTube |

Yes, it's visible as a red pixel on the downloaded photos. Thanks for the link, it brought me onto another video which may help: How To Fix A Hot or Dead Pixel (Canon 7D & 5D & others) - YouTube
It says to take the lens off, put the body cap on, find manual sensor cleaning in the menu and hold the camera pointing down 30 seconds. It should remap after cleaning, so it could help. I can only try that in a couple of weeks though, because I don't have my body cap with me. If that doesn't work I try your Dust Delete Data tip. Thanks for the help!

Thanks, I post here whether it worked or not.

Even if you sent it in, Canon would send it back: 1 stuck or dead pixel isn't actually fixable.

Really? Wouldn't they just remap the sensor?

Theyd probably do what you've been instructed to do here. Or nothing at all. They may not have the facility to do that in the repair centres.
Remember, most people dont send their cameras in for ONE stuck pixel. IIRC the industry standard is 8-10 before anything can be done about it.

I see. Well, in any case it's good to know that it's not worth bothering in case the above described method doesn't work. Wouldn't want to be without my camera for 2 weeks anyway!
