Image Quality SX110 VS SX230 (or SX30)

Hi
I want to buy a new camera. I think about the canon SX230 or maybe the SX30. I also consider the Sony HX9V.

I really love the SX110. its a great camera and take great pictures. but after it took a hit, it doesn't function as before and I have to buy a new one.
The most important thing for me is the image quality. I looked at some sample pictures of the SX230 and the SX30 and compared to sample pictures of the SX110. I did it in 2 different websites and in both I think the 110's were better.
Could it be that 3 years old camera takes better pictures than a new one?

and another thing - what are the pros of sx30 against the 230? it is about 3 times larger. is it only better for macro and zooming?
