Unhappy Canon 7D or Nikon D7000

Some input would be nice: i'm tossing up between the Canon 7D and the Nikon D7000, I can't decide. It seems the Nikon is better in low-light (important to me) and actually on all levels, except fps, as a camera body. However, Canon have a better range of lenses...

Please help!

You know, this is the wrong question. Unless you already have experience with a DSLR, then these are NOT entry level cameras. If you have used either a Canon or Nikon camera, then you will have a prefererence for one or the other.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but if I was buying a semi pro DSLR, I would want to know enough to not have to ask this question.

Buy a camera that you can learn on.

Cheers,

John W

As you may know there are pro and cons for each model. The best thing you can do is to go in a shop and to handle a bit both models to see which one fits better for you... which controls and menus are more appropriate to your preferences, things like this... then you decide for yourself. Otherwise if you want to take a decision based on our opinion I vote for Nikon.

Default Just answer the question

I had my first slr 30 years ago and have had several dslrs since they came onto the market, so please keep your judgements to yourself. however, i would like to hear from somebody who has experience with one or both these cameras over a period of time, so i can hear first-hand their impressions. many reviews by buyers through online shops and camera webpages are contradictory and i hoped the people here would be a little more professional, it seems some are just judgemental rather than helpful.

I've got a 7D and love it. Performs well in low light (not as well as a 5D Mark ii but good enough), and I personally like the fast frame rate as I do quite a bit of fast action shooting. Can't speak for the Nikon, I never even glanced twice at them, for some reason I was just drawn to a Canon.

Well, if this is the situation, having some SLR experience, you have to know that choosing between camps is an important decision and IMHO have not to be based on the differences between 7D and D7000. You are entering in a system and based on your decision you will start to build a kit... You need to have place to grow and you need to make sure that the system where you enter leave space for growing in that area.

Based on my own opinion, if I'd be on your shoes today, I'đ decide either:
1) on Nikon, if for me low light and great AF performance is required, for PJ kind of work, events in available light, documentary work, some sports & action
2) on Canon if fashion, wildlife and some other sports are important for me

Of course that cameras from both systems can do very well all kind of applications... What I mean here there are only these slight differences that are well appreciated by a pretentious user.

If you do not choose carefully the camp now, later on you may want to switch the boat and that would be painfully and costly. As for me I decided for Nikon because I am a fanatic of working in available light and also because I am an "old-fashioned guy" and I like that on my current camera I can use all my old Nikkor lenses. I love the modern fast f1.4 primes but I have a special pleasure to take my 30yrs old Nikkor 50/1.2 AI and to get unbelievable good pictures with it, especially after dark... But I do not expect many people to have such as interest

Most people will at some stage have gone for one or the other, so go get a shot of each its usally a life time choice so take your time they are both great cameras but remember its not the camera that makes the image.

All the best

Sorry Mate, I mean no offence. I thought it seemed unusual to not having a predisposition for one brand or the other and making a choice at such a high end.

My 7d is great, I;ve only had it for a week or two but the difference with the 450D is amazing and a steep learning curve.

Like you I'm a long term photographer, but still learning.

Cheers,

Jonh W

Maybe this will help you, and not only confuse matters for you. I always tell people faced with this situation that they will be happy with whatever they choose...both excellent cameras. According to this comparison the Canon does a few things better, but overall, the Nikon seemed to offer more.

Canon 7D vs Nikon D7000

If you notice my equipment list below you will see that we own both camps, and I'm not biased to either
