Default Inexpensive wide angle lens

I started with a t1i and the 18-55 kit, and recently got a 50mm 1.8 which is fun to use but the focal length is limiting. What is a good lens for wide angle shots, with a budget of around $400 max? Would a I get better results with a prime?
thanks

With the cropped sensor of T1i, you would need close to 10mm for wide angle shots. And unfortunately, for your budget (of $400) you might not find a wide angle lens (not a new one atleast). And the wide angle primes are even more expensive, I think.

I have been doing some research for a Wide Angle lens myself and found the following :

- Tamron 10-24
- Sigma 10-20
- Tokina 11-16
- Canon 10-22

The prices range from about $500 for the Tamron to $800 for the Canon.

Now, you'll find varied reviews on each of these models all over the internet, may be enough to even confuse you (it sure had me confused). Based on various factors, I've decided to finally go with the Canon (even though it costs more than the others).

So, good luck with your choice.

Are you ok with MF? If so, how about a fisheye? The distortion can be corrected in PS.

Default Save your pennies!

I say go for the Canon 10-22. It is a very nice lens. At 10mm I have inadvertently gotten my shoes in the frame. That is WIDE. It is also very low distortion. Well, the lens distorts the shot; I mean pin-cushion/barrel. Lens distortion is easily adjustable in LR3. One thing this lens is not: inexpensive. Save those pennies.

Lots of shiny glass stuff and a few flashes. Latest hardware: 100-400L. Yippee!
