Default Prime lense and semi-manual modes

Hello,

I have a Canon 50D and recently got a 50mm f/1.8 II lens. I was originally using a zoom lens. I'm very confused about using aperture priority or shutter priority mode with this prime lens. Are there any special rules or tips for using this settings when using a prime lens?

Thanks.

never heard of a prime lens behaving differently than a zoom lens when using ap or shutter priority... what about describing the difference it does compared to a zoom? might be a bad copy of the lens...

Thanks, I guess I'll have to play with it a little more to test it.

It functions exactly the same as any zoom lens would.

Use manual mode!

There shouldn't be any difference between Zoom and prime in aperture or speed priority modes.. The only difference is the lack of zoom and the very fast apertures..

Because most of us get fast primes to use them at the wider apertures, I'd say that aperture-priority is the most logical mode to use. You set the aperture, the shutter speed shifts around, based upon the metering. Same as with zoom lenses, except that you can probably open up a lot wider.
