Default Canon Refurbish

I am thinking of buying from Canon. A 50D refurbished camera.Has anyone bought any refurbish one from them and would you do it again or are they junk cameras?

I know it comes with a 90 day warranty.

Thanks for any input.

I've not yet bought a camera body this way but intend to buy my next through the refurb site. There have been some posts here on this forum that have been very positive of the experience so I plan to give it a try, and save a few bucks.

By the way, I have a 50d and love it. I have considered buying a second (from the refurb store) as a backup. It's sturdy and I am more than happy with the image quality.

I do it all the time. Last brand new gear I purchased were my EOS 1d's. However.....I only purchase new lenses.

I have never bought refurbished but I am thinking of buying a refurbished "L" series lens from Canon. I found this and it gave me a little more peace of mind.

What are the advantages of refurbished goods?

All refurbished items will have been checked over by the manufacturer by hand, inspected very thoroughly, diagnosed, and calibrated by experienced technicians, and could therefore turn out to be more dependable than a new item - which will only have been checked by a process of systematic quality control protocol (ie by random sampling as it comes off the conveyor belt).

Is it really worth it the 7d body is only $200 cheaper than the new. and for $400 more you can get it with the 18-135 lens.

7D body goes for $1700 on B&H. The Refurb price is $1359. The CLP price is $1,087.20. $600 off is not a small amount. Refurbed 50D goes for $703.36 (less than a new 600D at this point), and in the CLP is priced at $562.69.

Both my bodies (5Dii and 50D) were purchased as refurbs via the Canon Loyalty Program, which gave me a substantial discount (I got the 5D for around $1800; the 50D around $650 over a year ago). Both of them are ticking over like clockwork and are doing quite well. The 50D is well past the 1-year point where buying it new would have warrantied it. The 5Dii is about eight months into its life with me. The click count on both when they arrived was under 50 (in the case of the 5D, under 12).

But, you pays your money and your takes your chances. While a lot of the refurbs are basically brand new items that simply cannot be sold as new, some of the refurbs really are repaired units. That's the lottery aspect of this thing. But unlike the brand new ones, you know that every camera has actually gone through a service center inspection.

To me, it's worth the risk. But everybody's tolerance for gambling is different.

I bought a 50D refurb from Adorama 21/2 years ago. It was perfect then and still is now with 50,000 clicks and 1 service (just a tune up)

No issues.

In my experience, factory refurbished items are as good, if not better than new. This is because the "refurbished" item has been gone over by a technician.
