Default New vs Refurbished Lenses

Hello everybody,

It feels like I've got a new question almost every day. Today the topic is New vs Refurbished lenses. Some people say to only buy new, others say that Refurbished guarantees a better calibration because they're individually tested. But that you're also giving up the long warranty when you don't buy new.

So what are your thoughts? Would you go New or Refurbished?

I appreciate any replies I receive. The reason I'm asking is because I'm looking at getting the 50mm prime lens. Some reviews say that they've had calibration issues with the lens, and that by buying refurbished, you tend to not experience this as often. But it would also be great to know for all my future lens purchases as well. Thanks in advance to everyone!

I bought the 55-250 IS from Adorama refurbished, and I had zero problems. I'd definitely consider this again in the future.

Not sure, they both have pros and cons. The last lens I bought "Refurbed" from the local shop just died. the repair guy said that the only thing the problem could have been caused by was dropping the lens. Needless to say, I wont be buying any more refurbished stuff from them. The worst part is that the people there are the most helpful salespeople on the face of the planet.

Back to your Q. I would still buy new, that way you get the full warenty, and know that's its right out of the factory. On the other hand you could save a fair bit of money buying refurb. If you want to get refurb, at least get it from a good company, AKA Adorama, B&H,(Do they still do refurb?)Etc.
