Hi everybody!
I am considering buying a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens for my Canon T1i and am wondering if I should spend the extra money for the IS version. I take picture of the kids and their sports such as soccer, swimmong, gymnastics, etc. I will also be taking pictures of surfing once in a while. My lens budget is tight so I don't want to spent the money for the IS version if I'm not going to need it. Any insight or experience is greatly appreciated. |

If most/all your work is going to involve fast shutterspeeds (ie 1/400+) then dont bother with the IS: it wont help any.

If you do "panning shots" the IS would be helpfull. I shoot motorsports, kids, sports, kids playing sports and I opted for the IS version...love it! The IS would also be helpfull if you are going to shoot things other than action...low light shots, portraits and/or candids, etc. Do some searching on yahoo or google on IS vs non IS, you might find more helpfull information.
Maybe these will help?... http://the-digital-picture.com/Revie...view.aspx?vm=r http://www.the-digital-picture.com/r...ns-review.aspx
