Default T3i and older lenses

Is the T3i capable of having auto-focus with 'any' older canon AF lens with its built in focus motor? I was thinking of getting a T3i body and picking up a newer EF 28-135 for my main lens, and then getting an older film era lens in the 10-12mm range for a wide angle. Just curious if I would be able to have AF on it. That would give me a decent range of glass with one prime in the 16-19mm range and a 44-218mm(ish) zoom.

Opinions?

Russ

As long as it's Canon and Autofocus, it'll work.

As for finding an old film-era 10-12mm lens: you wont. It doesnt exist.

Default It's been awhile

It has been awhile since I last had an SLR, but I thought Canon had a couple prime extreme wide angle lenses back in the day? Maybe I am thinking way back, non auto-focus types though.

Also, does it have to be a Canon, or just Canon mount i.e. Sigma and so on?

Default Second ?

That actually brings me to another question. Does anyone know of an online lens database? Looking for something that lists not just new, but older lenses as well. Hopefully it would have specs and such as well, not just a list.

Canon's widest EF (full-frame) lens (which is what yould be needed for film) is 14mm. Hell, even the fisheye is 15mm. We've since broken that barrier down to 12mm (Sigma has a 12-24) on full-frame. For smaller sensors, the lenses can be designed differently so we can go down to 8mm (again, Sigma's 8-16, though 10mm is common).

Default Thanks

Hmm, oh well, my memory confuses me I guess. Thanks for the details though. Maybe going with the EF-S kit 18-55 isn't such a bad idea for wide angle for now.

Also, thanks for the link Richard.
