Default CF card for Canon 7D

I have just received my new Canon 7D body, but do not know what size, brand etc CF card I should buy for it. I have to order it, as nobody in this area keep them. Thanks

Mate, you mut have a Harvey Normans or The good Guys store nearby. Get a couple of 4gb Sandisk Extreme. If you shoot RAW 4gb will give you over one hundred pics on 4gb. I think that having a number of SD or Cf cards is better than putting all your eggs in one basket with a large card like an 8gb or higher.

Cheers,

John W

also, i'd suggest getting the 60MB/S not the 30MB/S... at 8FPS your buffer dissapears real quick if you're on 30MB/S.

better to be safe than sorry

Thanks for the info. We have a Harvey Norman here, but they tell me nobody uses those sort of cards in cameras any more. We are off to a town 100kls away, so will call into the camera centre there - should be able to get one. I wondered if the 4gb would be large enough as that is as high as I go with my Canon 450D.
I'll take in the info about the 60MB/s also. It is a learning curve.
Thanks to you both.

Just like the guy at Target who told me all cards are the same. I bit my tongue.

I agree that more cards with smaller capacity makes sense, but just as a caution, if you shoot sports (as I do with my 7D), it doesn't take long to fill up even a 16G card with that compelling 8 fps shooting rate! I also agree--go for the higher speed cards, as your 8 fps won't matter if you card can't write them fast enough.

I usually carry 4x8GB Sandisk Extreme III's which even shooting in RAW on my 50D will normally get me through a wedding no problem. I do delete while I shoot so it saves a little room but I think I get about 1200 images under those parameters.
