Default Question on Canon 60D rubber grip

Folks,
I have narrowed down to buy Canon 60D as my 1st DSLR.
However the last concern which is bothering me is the issue of the rubber grip peeling off very soon on 60D bodies.
I read about in few forums including dpreview. Seems like many ppl have the rubber grip peeling off in few months after purchase.

To add to this when i was at Henrys (a camera store chain here in Canada) to see the D7000 and 60D, to get a feel at hand, i saw the canon 60D there had the same issue. the rubber grip had started peeling off near the shutter release button area rim.
When i asked the sales person, she said thats why you should buy our extended warranty etc...all sales crap.

Have you guys seen this as well and what you guys feel/think about this issue?

I'm not entirely sure, but a friend of mine's son has a Nikon that the grip started to slip. After my friend watched him shoot some photos, they discovered that he was trying to hold the camera and a rather large lens just by his camera grip. This puts a lot of leverage on that rubber and caused it to slide. Don't know if this is the only issue with the grip or not. I've had my D60 for about two months and haven't had a problem. Haven't had as much opportunity to use it as I'd like, but I definitely love the D60!!!

the rubber on the back of my D80 started coming off right near the end. But it was 3 years old.

Well I bought my 60D at the end of November 2010 and I don't have any signs of the rubber portion of the grip peeling.

I do keep my camera in a bag most of the time. I'm participating in a 365 project since the beginning of the year. My camera can't hide from the daily use of my 365 project, including brief outings in snow, mist and recently 80F temps. So I handle my camera at least once a day for at least 10 min, normal lens changes, tripod mounts, etc. It's been used for more than 10 minutes at a time and carried around during family parties and so forth.

The concern i had been reading around is that for 60D it is peeling off fairly soon. I understand it could happen when the camera is old and have been used significantly.

But there seem to be some ahesive issue in 60D, causing it. If not for all, but for many bodies.

I'd like to hear from someone who used Canon 60D quite a bit over the last few months and share his/her experience.

i hope i will see few more responses frm 60D current owners and depending on that, i would like to buy my camera in the next few weeks, whenever there is some deal on it. Last 2-3weeks there seem be no more deals on canon 60d here in Toronto, Canada

Default Yep, I definitely have this issue.

I bought my 60D in September 2010. IT's been through pretty rigorous use since then, but not what anyone would call "abuse." Both the grips on the front and back (anywhere my hand makes contact when I'm holding the camera) have started coming loose.

The lip just below the shutter, the very bottom edge of the front grip, and the back grip where my thumb rests have peeled up and exposed the underside of the rubber. Also, the mid-section of the front has started to bubble. Seems pretty indicative of a glue-related failure.

Though mostly cosmetic, it still affects functionality since I can't really grip my grip without fear of it coming off. I made an attempt to glue some sections back on, and it worked near the shutter, but not so well anywhere else.

Nevertheless, everything else about the camera is fantastic, and later this week, I plan on talking to Canon to see what they can do about this issue, hopefully resolving it once and for all.

Default Same Here

I have mine for almost five month and the rubber is peeling off the grip and near the dial on the back...
But besides that, it's a great camera.
