Need some help with Canon t1i settings

Let me see if I can explain this correctly. On the screen on the back of the camera, it "counts" the photos. My camera is somehow set in descending order. Meaning, when the memory card is empty and there no photos, it shows how many photos that I can take and goes backwards.
I REALLY need it to go in ascending order, the other way. I have an event this coming Saturday where I am going to be taking lots of photos. I need to be able to record the images numbers as I go, who gets what photo, etc. And I need them to be numbered as they will come off of my camera.
I cannot find the setting in the menu. I cannot find this in the manual. But I am quite sure that I am just not looking in the right place.
Any know how to do this? Does this even make sense? TIA!!
