Hi there.
I am new to this website. Hoping someone can send some advice my way. I am currently shooting with a Canon Rebel XS. I just bought and speelight for it which I understand I need a sync cord (rat tail) in order to use the flash off camera. Any recommendations? Also, I am wondering how easily the Canon Rebel XS hooks up to studio lighting? Strobes? Will a Skyport Transmitter work on a Canon Rebel XS? It just seems from some of my reading, that the Canon Rebel does not hook up to external light sources as easily as more expensive DSLR cameras? Thank you |

It depends on your sync methods. If you use one that connects to the flash's hotshoe, you're fine. If you use a method that's designed to use a sync port, then you'll need a hotshoe adapter, like these.
Which kind of sync cable you want (hotshoe-to-hotshoe eTTL, or PC/minijack Manual flash) depends a) on what speedlight you got, and b) whether or not you want eTTL. A studio strobe typically uses a 1/4" mono jack socket as its sync port, so you just need some way to convert the hotshoe sync signal to a 1/4" mono jack. A hotshoe adapter to PC and a PC-to-1/4" jack cable can work, or a hotshoe to 1/8" mono, and a 1/8" mono to 1/4" mono adapter and simple audio cables can do it, too. Radio trigger receivers typically use one of those two sync methods: PC or 1/8" minijack, and most radio transmitters typically connect directly to the camera hotshoe.
