I only have had a point and shoot camera, right now i have a panasonic lumix fs7 i bought last year. I was interested in the sony nex 3 camera because it is small and shoots dslr quality pictures, but im not sure how adjustable the menu is as far as shutter speed, aperture, etc. so i can learn. or should i go with just a regular dslr? im still learning so i cant get nothing expensive.

I would recommend a top end PS camera like the canon G12. It can do so much and more and you can learn all the manual settings.
If you ever grow into a DSLR, you still have a top quality camera as a back up.

I started with the Canon Powershot S5 and it has suited me well. I have had it since it came out and have learned how to use the settings with it. I will be upgrading very soon but will still use it for those times I don't want to carry the bigger camera. I love that i can do video on it also. You can find it for under $600 and i am sure you will not be disappointed.
