Default Canon "L" Lenses

Will the Canon 7D handle "L" lenses, or do I need to step up to he 5D MarkII?

"L" lenses are just pro-grade lenses. They are compatible with all Canon DSLR.

Confusing question is confusing.

Guys, I think this is just someone with a weird inverted interpretation of the old "you need L glass when you move to a 5D Mark II" chestnut. I.e., everything else purportedly looks like crap on full-frame. So, the OP is thinking that ergo, only the 5D Mark II can show off an L to its full potential. :6 The fact that the original chestnut is also wrong doesn't help, but hey, let's face it, the interwebz are full of photographic misinformation.

L glass looks just fine on a crop body camera.

Steve I have two L-Series lenses I use on my 7D - a 24-105mm F4 IS and the super 70-200mm F2.8 IS II L. Both of them are awesome lenses and the 7D is a very capable body with which to use an L-Series lens. Hope you get to have fun with one. But beware, L-Series lenses come with the baggage of so called L-addiction where you'll be unable to look at another so called "inferior" lens again for it won't bear the red ring!

Completely agree with bigrobo89 on this. I received my first L lens two weeks ago and am amazed at the difference. If you haven't received your L lens for your 7D yet, you will love it when you get it.

I don't quite agree with that statement.
no doubt - L lenses are better, but to say that non-L lenses look like crap on a full frame is not quite true.
I'm using the 85mm f/1.8 on a 5D MKII. no doubt that the 85mm f/1.2 L will give better results but the f/1.8 give great results as well.

The operative word is "purportedly"

There is a noticable difference, especially when when shooting at the wider apertures between some L lenses and non L lenses just as there is between any two lenses.

I have a mixture of L and non L lenses and mostly shoot with a 5D & 40D.
I just take what ever lens I need to the job with the only consideration being focal length (range) and maximum aperture. Not weather it is an L lens or non L lens.

Here are a couple of hand held examples using, reportedly not so good lenses on a 5D.

(1) Canon 35mm F2 @ F2
Sydney Opera House.

(2) Canon 24mm F2.8 @ F4 - This has had a fair bit of PPing in Topaz Adjust.
Sydney (Australia) from Hyde Park.

The real question is anything LESS than an L okay on a 7D. That sensor really likes good glass. 18MP crammed on to an APS-C will reveal all kinds of problems with cheap glass. I used to think there wasn't much of a difference, there really is though. They are hella expensive though.

that is it in a nutshell. Until you try it you don't know... and then you do... and then you are in the poor house.

For me it is not only IQ, it is AF speed which I find the most impressive
