Just wondering if anyone has bought a refurbished dslr from the Canon Direct Store and what there experience is from their purchase.

Got both my current bodies through the Canon Loyalty Program, which is pretty much the same thing, only with 20% lower prices and an old camera disposal. No regrets whatsoever. The cameras have both been performing like champs. And I was lucky, and both of them were virtually new cameras with click counts <12 when each arrived. The 50D has passed through what would have been the 1-year warranty period if it weren't a refurb with flying colors. Some folks on POTN actually posit that the QA on the factory refurbs is better than for the new ones.

Sorry If this is totally retarded but how do I check the click counts when my camera arrives? Its a refurb? Will that reset it to zero or what?

There is a little freeware program called EOSinfo. You link your camera to your PC via usb and run this little program and it gives basic camera info including shutter count. This only runs on PC's but the site there is another program for MACs.

astrojargon - EOSInfo

Don't think it should be set to zero as I have had my 450D set to continuous file numbering since I got it. Latest shot I took was 5144 but this utility is showing the actual count as 5673. Therefore I'm assuming that before the refurb it had taken 529, not bad for a really big saving over new.

I really think that when I decide to upgrade I'll be going the same route.

I recently signed up for an account on the Canon direct site and ordered a refurbished 70-200 2.8L. It arrived the other day and it looks brand new. It came with everything a new one would have, minus the pretty red and white Canon box. There are no scratches or blemishes and the glass is amazing. I was very happy with my purchase through the web site. Of note, I signed up for my Canon account, to order from them, and ordered the same day. Three days after I ordered I received an email coupon for 10% anything in the refurb store. The coupon is only good for a few days or I would have ordered something else. I have several friends who also ordered from Canon refurb direct and they are also very happy with the products they received.

Have fun

Did your lens come with the front and rear lens caps? It doesn't specifically say it is included but I would assume they would to protect it? It is suggesting that I buy those 2 as an accessory, but not sure if that's a default to suggest them or if I really need to buy them because they are not included. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!
