Default Noisy 60D

Hi,
I just got a new 60D mainly because every review says it has very low noise even at high ISO. I come from a 450D that, on the contrary, is a very noisy camera even at low ISO.

After I took the first shots, I was very disappointed... it has more noise than the old 450D! How could it be?

Here are two samples (shoot with a 15-85 canon IS):

Could it be a faulty sensor? What can I do?

I zoomed in on the photo's you provided. Seems fairly normal to me, but then again I'm not expert. Check out this review and you can see noise at various settings and on various Canon cameras.

I forgot to say I had to resize the images at 50% to upload them on imageshack... at 100% there is more noise.

If it's normal, then I was too optimistic...

Could you post the exif data for them? Could it be that it's long exposures, even with high iso that's giving the noise? I've heard this is a problem that is inherent with digital.

the guitar pic is 1/20sec. f/4,0, 24mm ISO 800... and I think the noise is WAY too much

the docks 15sec, f/14, ISO 400 (!)

I'm not saying I was expeting a noise-free camera, I'm saying it's more noisy than another camera (450D) that costs less than a half!

18MP on a 1.6 sensor, you are going to have noise. I have a lot of it on my 50D at 15MP. But it is no problem if you have a good noise reduction program. I use Topaz, and as far as I am concerned it is the best.

I didnt see much noise in the guitar (though you missed focus). THe docks is definitely long-exposure noise, not high-iso noise and that's something you simply cant avoid.

Maybe my expectations were too high... by the way I shoot more pics with slightly better light conditions, and they are very acceptable:

This one maybe still has too much noise on dark areas:

With more light, it gets a lot better:

Again, im not seeing anything out of the ordinary. You'll notice noise less if you expose a bit to the right.

Generally, shoot so that you're JUST blowing out highlights, then in RAW just bring it down a tiny bit.
