Wait, seriously? You're comparing an entry-level Rebel body to a top-of-the-line pro-series body?
Dont be daft.

I take that as the 1D would be the better one! I'm still fairly new and I am trying to learn from my experiences and the good people on these forums like, Syntaxxor. At least he/she took the time to explain some of the differences like I was looking for! I thank them for that, and for the other post, thanks for nothing. I thought these forums were for helping each other in the photography world!?

Did you bother to look at specs for both cameras? To see how each was primarily used? Who each is targeted towards? Have you ever HELD both cameras? Or seen both? Do you have any idea about technical differences and how they affect images, or your image-taking capabilities? Have you done the most basic google searches?
From your original post, I'd say that the answer to all those is a flat NO. We're here to help, but stupid questions will get stupid answers. Do a modicum of research before asking a question

1D II is probably the "better" body, if you're looking for advanced features for sports shooting and heavy use, but it's an entirely different beast from a consumer-grade dRebel. It's much bigger (it has an integrated portrait grip), heavier, and in the case of the two models you're comparing, much much older. (the 1D Mk II was introduced at the beginning of 2004, while the XSi in 2008. So the XSI has four years' more advances in sensor and processor technology (e.g., it's 12MP and uses Digic III, while the 1D II only has 8MP and uses Digic II).
In addition the 1D pro series of cameras assumes you know what you're doing. There are no "model" dials, like you're used to with the lower end and prosumer cameras. And the 1D series is that odd duck of the digital world, an APS-H sensored camera: it uses a 1.3x crop factor, not a 1.6x. And it is NOT full frame, but you cannot use EF-S lenses on it. I'm gathering that you're probably going solely by used-body prices, but that's not necessarily a great way to choose the camera you want. If you get a used 1D II, chances are it'll have been pretty heavily used, possibly thrashed, and have a much much higher click count than a used XSi.

Thanks Osmosis, yes I did google some things and Like I had said I'm still learning what all of the technical stuff is. I am on a very tight budget. I found a 1D for what seems to be a decent price for used($850) (checked ebay for avg price) and just wanted to make sure I didn't do something I'd regret in the long run.
Thanks inkista, that's kind of what I thought about the age thing. I think I'll just hold off and save for something newer and hopefully I'll have a better understanding of all the tech stuff. Last edited by ccaction; 01-24-2011 at 04:58 AM. |
