Default D60 CR2 images can't open in photoshop. Why?

I know this question has been asked many times but I couldn't find a thread with an answer. I have just taken my first images with my D60 (upgraded from 1000D) and find that the CR2 images aren't recognised by Photoshop. I remember I had this issue when I first had my 1000D but cannot remember what I did. I have CS4 V11.0.2 and tried to update Camera Raw but it says no updates are available. I have Adobe Lightroom and that opens them ok but not Photoshop. Sorry .... but can anyone tell me again what the problem is? Thanks. ops:

I now gather I need Photoshop CS5 which supports Camera Raw plugin v6.2.
I discovered this tech note.

CS4 should open D60 files no problem, assuming you have the Camera RAW plugin installed.

I had the same problem when I got my Nikon D300 and was still running CS2. All of the ACR updates that included support for that camera weren't compatible with CS2. I suspect intentionally, so as to make you upgrade your software.

I've just noticed...

This is in the Canon forum. Are we talking about the NIKON D60 or the CANON 60D?

Either way, CS4 updated to the current iteration should work fine.

Default Work around available

The good news is, there is a work-around available.

Download the current ACR with the DNG converter. First convert your RAW images to DNG.. then process as normal. I have noticed no loss of quality doing this.. it is just an extra step.

Use DPP instead? I prefer it over Adobe but I seem to be in the minority.
