The 50mm on the kit lens is equal to the 50mm prime. The crop factor applies to both. It will actually act like an 80mm shot. 50x1.6=80 on both

The crop factor is not in the lens, but the camera body. Using your zoom lens @50mm will render the same field of view as a 50 mm prime.
You have a Canon 7d which is a 1.6X factor crop Using a 50 mm lens on a 1.6X crop equates to using an 80 mm ON A FULL FRAME CAMERA.
