Default Canon Lens: Black vs White Coat

Canon Lens: Black vs White Coating: what is the differences between black and white coating lens ?

Question is not about material it made of but quality you get in image.

Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : EF Lens Lineup

For example:
EF 28-300mm and EF-S 55-250mm from link above in Telephoto Zoom category. Defiantly price differences is more than $2000 and it is not because of mm deference and F stop. What Else ??????

What will i see on image with EF 28-300mm that i do not have on same image with EF-S 55-250mm ?

Canon L Lens Series Information that should answer your questions.

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...?Equipment=456 EF-S Samples

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/R...?Equipment=295 EF Samples

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/r...ns-review.aspx EF-S Review

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/r...ns-review.aspx EF-Review

The biggest difference between those lens will be higher quality glass elements in the big white lens compared the the EF-S lens as well as physical build quality. This will result in sharper images, better contrast, more accurate colors, few chromatic aberrations, possiblly faster focusing (I haven't read the reviews yet so this may not be an acucrate statement).

Odds are if you have to ask what the difference is your not ready for a 2,000+ dollar lens. I think you should be pretty happy with the EF-S lens.

For the black lens see here.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens Review
I own one and whilst it is reasonable value for money and compact, it is not a high quality, both mechanically and IQ wise lens. It is only fair IQ wise.

This is one of my "better" pics with it.
(1) Grass

Camera Canon EOS 40D
Exposure 0.002 sec (1/500)
Aperture f/5.0
Focal Length 123 mm
ISO Speed 400

I do not own the 28-300 however you can read about it here (including sample pics)
Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 L IS USM Lens Review

I do own a Canon 70-200 F4 L lens
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0 L USM Lens Review

and it runs rings around the 55-250 both mechanically and IQ wise.
Example:
(2)
IMG_1350
Camera Canon EOS 40D
Exposure 0.001 sec (1/1000)
Aperture f/4
Focal Length 188 mm
ISO Speed 400

good link. Don't these sample images have same sharpness ? I see they sharp on $200-300 same as on $2000 lens. I personalty do not think they can be sharp as on $2000 lens.

Beside F stop, why would you buy L Lens ?

Those really aren't the best sample images since they aren't full size. Also they may have been post processed. In order to compare the two you need the same image shot under the same lighting conditions with the same distance from the camera to the subject. I haven't been able to find any samples like this yet but maybe you can by using a search engine.

I've used L glass and non L glass and there is a difference in sharpness from the lens I have tested so far but I like to nit pick my images (I haven't tested either of the lens you mention). Build quality, image stabilization system and the ability for the lens to focus quickly are also important purchasing decisions. Odds are for your use the EF-S will probably suit you needs just fine.

Both the above pics have been PP'd including sharpening.
The difference is the non L lens has had a lot more sharpening applied.

Here may be a better example, although not wide open this time .
IMG_1373
Camera Canon EOS 40D + Canon 70-200 F4 L
Exposure 0.002 sec (1/500)
Aperture f/5.6
Focal Length 200 mm
ISO Speed 400
Exposure Bias 0 EV

=============================
I use both L and non L lenses.
Why buy L?

(1) IQ ,especially at the larger apertures and (sometimes smoother bokeh).
It is very noticable
(2) Better build mechanically.
ie.
The front element does not rotate on the lenses I own.
Much quicker autofocus, which means you have a better chance of capturing a usable image in the first place.
Weather sealing, this is lens dependant.
(3) Can be used on a full frame camera (I shoot with both crop and full frame cameras).

I did notice that I had no idea of was a good lens was until I purchased the 70-200 F4 L (it was my first L lens) and it gets better with some L primes (I only own one)
