Why wouldn't they?

Yes, they will.

Yes they will, but they're awfully expensive. You may want to look into getting a Kenko (or cheaper) set instead. Just be sure they have electrical contacts so you can control the aperture and autofocus.

Hi OsmosisStudios/inkista,
thanks for your kind reply.

OsmosisStudios, in the canon's usa webpage they did not mentioned 550d in the compatibility list, that why i doubted.

inkista, certainly they are expensive. but canon made less hassle free, right. but im not degrading third party extension tubes which i couldn't able to comment.

tks n rgds,

Well, for lenses, I'd agree that the Canon equipment is nicer. But extension tubes are merely hollow tubes that place the lens physically farther away from the mount, with electric contacts to "extend" the lens/body electrical connections. There's no glass. Paying $300+ for two plastic tube to me is too expensive, since for $400, you could get an actual macro lens instead, and a 3rd party three tube set is less than $200.

Extension tubes do allow you to focus closer, but you lose the ability to focus to infinity. You will only be able to focus on your subject at certain distances--you'll have no choice on framing. That's what a macro lens is for. The more tubes you have, the more combinations you have and the larger the range of distances you can mount the lens away from the body.

As I said in my first reply, the Kenko extension tube set is pretty highly regarded.
