Default Lens pairing

I've read reviews online about it but i would like to get some user opinions on how this lens will pair with a 7D

EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS.

Also if someone can recc. a middle on the range versatile lens for all around shooting.

I'd say its a good start. It has great IQ. The only problems with it are the slow aperture and cheap build. With a body as expensive as the 7D may I ask why you're looking at the 18-55?
Another option could be the tamron 17-50 2.8 non VC (better IQ than the VC version), constant aperture and good IQ, as well as better build than the canon, though more expensive.

Default bargain

i got the lens along with the body. i paid an extra 57 and got that one and a zoom. it made sence cosidering the body alone cost more than what i paid all together. iwould like to purchase a good all around lens. for now im focusing on portrait and landscape.

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM L.

Great IQ, Fast focussing and excellent build quality.

Very good all round lens although may be not quite wide enough for some landscapes on a crop body..
(I don't own one)

I love my 24-70 on a crop as an everyday walk-around lens. It has exceptional IQ and is super fast focusing.
Everything depends on your budget.

17-85mm f4-5.6 IS USM
18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS

These 2 lenses are great for your camera. They are EF-S lenses designed specifically for the APS-C format.

The 17-85mm is USM, so the focus ring does not move when focusing.
The 18-135mm has a longer telephoto reach but the focusing ring moves, so take care not to clutch the front parts or you will be startled by the twist.

Both have excellent image quality.

The 18-135mm is a relatively new lens put out by Canon using the latest generation of IS technology, and is said to give up to 4 stops of advantage. I have both these lenses and I can say it does work great on a 7D or XXD series.

Here is one shot made from the 18-135mm on a 40D at 135mm.
