Unhappy Image Download Probs - Canon 40D

Not sure if it is related, but I just recently bought two new SanDisk Extreme 16GB 60 MB/sec flash memories. Around the same time, I also set my Canon 40D to RAW capture. Suddenly, I can't get all of my images off of the camera. The iMac won't take any of them, and the Dell laptop only recognizes some. I'm using the EOS Utility software that came with the camera, and have tried re-installing that, to no avail. I've tried going back to one of my 8GB flash cards, but that does not help. Even just using Windows Explorer, I can see the camera but there are many "blank" files of zero size and no details. Still, there are images that I can see on my 40D screen but that are not accessible to the computers. This is a totally unacceptable situation, as anyone could imagine. Right now, I am 100% unreliable and I can't go on this way.

Any suggestions/comments/Help(!) ??

Thanks!

Did you break or bend a pin in the camera? Shine a light inside to see if a pin is bent or broken. Check your cards to see if a pin is stuck in one of the holes.

Thanks, OldWolf, I'll look at that tonight when I get home. I don't recall anything unusual happening when I swapped out the cards though.

I was having the same problem with the new 50D I just bought. Before I would slide the SD card in my laptop from the T1i. But since the 50D uses the CF card I couldn't do that and couldn't get the photos to download off the camera hooked to the computer even after installing the software several times.

I just broke down and bought a cheap 15 dollar USB card reader from Wal-Mart. Problem solved.

I will have to look at the pin and see if I jammed it. I sure hope not... *sigh*

Default No visible damaged pins

OK I don't see any damaged or missing pins in the connectors or cards. I have ordered a card reader and will also try the pull-the-card/pull-the-battery maneuver. Guess there is also the Firmware reload to try, from what else I see on line. That, I'll leave for another day.

Not sure what to tell you now. I've never transfered pictures through my camera to my computer. I've always taken the cards out and manually transfered them over using a CF card reader.

Default Card Reader Works Great

I forgot to re-post on here until just now, but plugging my memory cards into a simple $15 reader works perfectly. Much faster, no errors, no camera software trying to interfere - Thanks!
