Question A Love Letter to a Camera

A Love Letter to a Camera

A Love Letter to Camera - NYTimes.com

Anyone have one of these?

I always carry a small Canon P & S, pocket camera, even when I take the SLR.

Is it time to upgrade?

What do you think?

But that's David Pogue. He loves everything digital and he plays with all of it for a living.

I have the S90 (the S95's predecessor), and I love it. It's still a small-sensored P&S, so don't expect 100% crops to wow you, but it's a lot nicer than your typical A or SD series Powershot. Having RAW and full Manual mode rock, as well as the f/2, the 28mm wide angle, and that control wheel.

S90. @22.5mm (105mm equiv. Tele end of range), iso 1000, f/4.9, 1/320s.

S90. @6mm (28mm equiv. Wide end of range), iso 80, f/5, 1/250s.

And given the recent price drop (It's now $350 on Amazon), the S95 could well be worth snagging. Just make sure you'd really really prefer having the S95 over the G12, first. You can do Strobist work with a G12.

Default S95, s90

Last time I saw such love to a camera was in Ken Rockwell's review of the S90.
I have it too (the S90), and I share the love. I'll probably upgrade when they fix what needs fixing.
