Default Powershot A1100 IS --- Manual settings?

Does anyone know if the Canon Powershot A1100 IS has any manual settings at all? My friend bought it awhile ago and is now getting really upset with it since she can't blur backgrounds, etc... Just thought I'd ask!

According to Canon's website, the A1100IS has the following shooting modes:
Quote:
Auto, Easy, P, Portrait, Landscape, Special Scene (Night Scene, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Sunset, Fireworks, Aquarium, ISO 3200, Long Shutter), Indoor, Kids & Pets, Night Snapshot, Movie
She can probably do blurred background only in macro mode which the camera has.

Okay, thanks. I'll let her know she should just buy a new camera. (she won't be happy to hear that... lol) (What would you use ISO 3200 for???)

Hey, you want the PSAM modes, you gotta pay for 'em. With Canon, typically only the S and G series cameras have full manual mode. A few of the higher end SDs have Av/Tv modes. But the last A series camera to have PSAM (and a flip-out screen) was the A650IS. The portrait mode might help, too, but it's nearly impossible to get really blurry background with a tiny P&S camera sensor and incredibly short lens, anyway. Macro's usually the only way to do it.

Crop factor also affects DoF. A 1.5x crop camera will have 1.5x more DoF. The crop factor for most P&S cameras that have 1/2.3" sensor is going to be around 5x or 6x.

When you need a fast enough shutter speed to "freeze" action in a dark situation more than you care about great gobs of noise.

Yeah, I know that's true... I'm sooooo glad that my P&S is one of the ones with a flip-out screen, and all the manual modes. Especially since I've recently been learning how to use them! Thanks for your help.
