Hello
I am new to dSLR and I am looking to get a Canon...not sure which one to get...was thinking about getting the Canon T2i kit. I am also looking to get an additional lens ( that I have no clue what to get) The reason I am getting a dSLR is to take photos of my own children and to update my sons portfolio for modeling. I had a photographer who was doing our pictures and charged us $30 and gave us rights to our photos...then the "fame" got to her and increased her prices to $150 and we had to purchase our photos from her at an inflated price also. what I would like are suggestions for an good dSLR and lens for portraits........any suggestions |

Which one all depends on how big you intend to print. If you are printing small then the XS is enough. The T2i will print much larger to almost 16X20 @ photo quality. It is also a matter of how much post production you are willing to do. The kit lenses have more lens distortion that the higher end glass. This can be corrected in Lightroom.
The kit lenses work ok but I would go for the 18-135 as it seems it will cover your topic much better. This lens will have to be purchased separately. It comes as a kit lens for higher end cameras like the 7D. This will better help you understand the whole print size to MP Design215 megapixels comparison and maximum print size charts Hope this was of help to you Keep shooting

I forgot to mention that the T2i will give you outstanding video capture capabilities.
