Default Upgrading my Canon? Any thoughts?

Hello!

I currently have the Canon XSI. Great camera! However, I'd like to upgrade and have my eye on either the Canon 40D or 50D.

For those more experienced, maybe you've done the same at some point? If you had to do it again is that the move you'd make?

Any words or thoughts on the Canon T1 or T2?

Thank you~ ;

Well- I'm pretty much looking for used on craigslist or ebay. Probably $500-$600 range.

Thank you for responding. Pretty new on here

What really matters is what the XSi doesn't do for you.

The only reason I see to upgrade to the 40D, 50D, T1i, or T2i would be for faster frame rates and/or video. Are those things you need? edit: there are some other advantages, like better build quality, higher resolution, ergonomics, etc., but I don't see them as reasons to upgrade in and of themsleves.

If you need benefits to low light shooting, none of those will be as much of an upgrade as moving a full frame sensor.

Depending on your needs, getting a good tripod, speedlite, or better lenses may be smarter than a new camera body.

I couldn't agree more. Where are you getting frustrated right now? The answer to that question gives you the features most important for an upgrade. If its megapixels any of the options you listed will get you what you need. If its ergonomics stay away from the T1i and T2i.

Again I agree. New lenses etc will hold their value better and you'll be able to use them when you do decide to upgrade your body.

Well~ I'm not impressed with the color quality of my pictures. I'm just learning aperture and shutter adjustments so that problem probably is my lack of experience. When I admire photographer websites I'm just amazed at the color and vibrance of the shots. I was thinking maybe its the better professional camera~

Thank you for your response.

Lenses and editing? I'm using a trial version of Adobe Elements now- still learning Thank you all. I'm saving money already just listening. I recently purchased the nifty fifty, a Tokina 12-24 and have a telephoto on its way. I take pictures everyday! Often there are just not enough hours in a day

Whoah whoah whoah! Three lenses at once, AND you're contemplating a body upgrade? Ok, you need to slow down just a bit there.

I tend to advocate getting only one piece of gear at a time, so you can thoroughly master it. Shooting with an ultrawide requires different skillz from shooting with a telephoto, which in turn, requires different skillz from shooting with a fast prime. Ditto a tripod. Ditto a flash (actually, triple that for a flash). Get used to what you have, thoroughly work it, learn it, master it, and only when you're absolutely certain it's not technique that's holding you back, then contemplate a new piece of gear.

Make sure you've got reasons to upgrade or to buy the gear you do. A lot of folks end up pursuing quality through gear upgrades, when maybe what they really needed was a class or a book, or just more time out shooting. Enthusiasm is great, but you may just be setting yourself up for more confusion or wasted cash if you're impulse buying gear. You do need to sit down and work out what it is you really need, vs. what you just want before going out and dropping cash on stuff.

Color is partially lenses, but also processing. I'd suggest learning about curves adjustments.
