Unhappy 7D with too much noise

I think I have a problem with my 4 month old Canon 7D. From what I've read, it's suppose to have superior low noise performance, however, I'm shocked if this is what people believe is low noise.

That pic is a 100% crop, no post processing image I took this past Friday.

Shot with my 7D, 24-105 F/4 L lens, 96mm, ISO 800, 1/640 (noise reduction setting was set to standard)

At ISO 800 and below, the noise level shouldn't be anywhere close to this level. Do you think I could have something wrong with this thing?

Another thing I've noticed, when shooting in 8fps high-speed mode, JPG format, Manual mode, sequenced images appear dark/light/dark/light alternately. I just don't understand since I'm in Manual mode, the exposure and settings are not changing one bit, and at 8fps, neither is the frame really.

There's your problem.

If you look at any image at 100% you're going to see noise. In your example, the girl's also a little underexposed, which accentuates the noise.

At actual size though, you shouldn't see that much noise. I've got a pic at ISO 200 with almost as much noise. That really can't be normal is it?

She's in shadow at 800 on a crop sensor viewing 100%, it looks pretty normal to me.

Double-check for auto-ISO.

No AutoISO mode. I NEVER use that mode. Unfortunately, this particular game had some long shadows from the setting sun behind the stands. One second the players were in the sun, the next in the shadows. Wreaks havoc with your manual settings, perhaps I should have switched to AutoISO.

But if you folks think the noise amount is normal, I'll keep shooting with it.
