Hi to all,
My name is Darrot(18) and i am very much new to SLR cameras and this site as well. All i've done is some shooting with Canon Powershot A550 and i'm really a amateur. And I'm thinking of buying a good one. My budget is around $2,000. I am very much interested in street, landscape, wildlife and macro photography. Also can you please advice regarding the good cameras( I'm looking at Canon 7D, now). Or is it that one has to invest more in good lenses than the body. Thanks in advance |

the 7D is fantastic, but if you are just starting with DSLRs, i wouldn't get one... it's a very high end camera (basically pro grade, or absolute peak of the enthusiast market at least) and there are plenty out there that will accomplish everything you want to do for significantly less money. i would look at the T2i, or if you want a prosumer body, possibly the 50D. both are great, the T2i has a newer sensor, video, etc, while the 50D has better weather sealing, a very solid magnesium body and the additional functionality of two control dial instead of just one.
another benefit of getting a less expensive body is that you can invest in better lenses, which is where you will see the biggest improvement in image quality. plus lenses hold their value and you can have the same ones for a long time, whereas the body will be outdated and replaced much more frequently.

If you really really want the 7D, I'd say keep your powershot for macro shooting for now. A 7D is an amazing camera, but if your budget is relatively modest, I'd say go for a lower end body and higher end glass if you can, so that when your camera body breaks or goes out of date, and you want to upgrade, you'll already have the lenses you want. There's always going to be a better, newer camera out there. Most folks upgrade a camera body within 3 to 5 years. Lenses last longer than that, because they can be used on multiple bodies.
