Default Canon XS and screw-in IR filters

I am looking at buying a, IR720 filter and was wondering if anyone knew if this IR imaging trick would work at all on my camera. I know it has a IR pass filter, but I have read where people using an old 300D Canon and getting results.

Can anyone put me on the right path? I already know about the wicked expensive modded cameras for this. I just want to know if I can get results from this filter and camera combination. And yes I know I am looking at 1-2 minute exposures.

Yes, you can do this--I did a search for Canon 1000D in a Flickr Digital Infrared group, and saw some long-exposure samples from an unmodified XS.

But don't use the 18-55 kit lens. That lens has an IR hotspot, right in the middle.

Canon XT/350D. EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 II (non-IS, non-USM). Hoya R72 filter.
iso 200, f/8, 10s

While mine is an earlier version of the 18-55, folks are reporting that the newer IS versions of it have the hotspot as well. Here's a list of lenses and their IR suitability. The EF 50mm f/1.8 II is probably the cheapest lens (~$100 new) you can pick up that doesn't have an IR hotspot.

Thanks for the link. I don't see my Tamron 28-200 LD Aspherical on the list of bad or good so we will see how it goes. If all else fails I can always buy another lens just for the IR stuff. But it is good to know that I can get some rewarding results without turning my new camera into a Frankenstein. If it goes well I can contact them to add it to the list. That would be great as this is a very popular lens.
