Default Canon G9 Shutter speed issue

I was using my G9 over the weekend down in OC (Ocean City, MD) to take photos of the waves. They turned out nicely. However now, when setting the Shutterspeed to 1/2500, and pressing the shutter down half way, the image is completely black. Also in the bottom center, there is a red F4.0. How can I fix this?

Thanks,
Aaron

1/2500 is VERY fast: you're likely not getting enough light to get a picture (hence the black). The red f4.0 likely means that you're at the widest aperture you can use and its not enough light for a photo. It's the camera's way of saying "THIS WONT WORK"

Thank you for you reply.
Yes I am aware that 1/2500 is very fast. Nice when shooting waves, etc.
I will try this outside and see how well it does.
