Default new to camera

I just bought a canon t1i and am starting to take a lot of indoor sport (MMA) photos, with the flash not being able to be used. While still learning the camera and am very new to industry, would like to know the best ways to accomplish this task along with any lenses or techniques, settings that are best to use. Pictures taken through cage and not through cage, and athletes are somewhat up-close and moving rapidly. Distance is not an issue due to ability to remain ring-side.......please advise

I shoot a LOT of MMA. It's a challenge to shoot it well but it can be done.

First of all, what kind of glass do you have? Fast glass is needed for this type of shooting as the lighting isn't usually all that great. You also need to be able to shoot at higher ISOs than you'll (normally) be comfortable with. Need to keep those shutter speeds up.

You'll need to shoot AI-Servo focus and in bursts. Shoot RAW so you have more range to play with on the photos. Don't be afraid of some noise reduction but don't overdo it.

Here are some shots from a card I shot a couple of months ago. Not a lot of MMA in the summer. Got a bunch of shows coming up.

I also wrote about shooting this kind of thing in my blog here. Just scroll down to the, "How do I shoot sports," entry.

Good luck!
