Default long exposure on 500D

Hi,
Just had my new camera 500D (2 hours) and ordered a remote for it but not arrived yet.

I want to practice star trail pics but dont seem to be able to find how to take the long exposure.

I have tried using bulb with self timer but it wont let me and cant find in the manual how to set it to keep taking pics every 10 mins or so indefinitely.

Is there a way rather than manually pressing the shutter(until my remote arrives).

Many thanks
Mark
