Default sports photography 7d or 50d

hi all . new to this site and need some wisdom. currently have a 1000d (DON'T LAUGH) but have some very good glass on it, into sports photography, and getting paid by the local papers for my shots. torn between a cannon 50d and a 7d. both are going to be out of this world compared to what i am useing now. i know the 7d has 8 frames per second but not interested in the video side of things. can anybody shed some light on this ? looking to make a purchase soon.

7D mainly because of the better focussing.

I shoot motor sport with a 40D

so not just paying for the video, the 19 point auto focus ,frames per second and iso setting for stadium sports really are worth the extra

Hands down, the 7D; and, not even factoring in the video capability.

I own both cameras and the 7d is far superior, regardless of the type of photography that you do. I would highly recommend it.

Not to forget &d even has advanced metering. 50D is ageing now & though its a good camera but we may see it being replaced in the ongoing photokina. So my vote goes for 7D. Pairing it with good glass should no doubt give good results.

Default memory cards

Ok ,so i now have my brand new cannon 7d, the 7d take the compact flash card and they are a fair bit more expensive than the standard sd card that go in my old 1000d ,reading up on the compact flash cards , am i really going to see the extra benifit out of a top of the line card! if so what are going to be the bonuses?

Well you probably aren't gonna notice anything but CF cards are faster and tend to be more reliable (typically) than SD cards which is why higher-end semi-pro and pro cameras use them instead of the SD cards.
