Smile Have to upgrade due to Windows 7 64bit

I use a pair of 1DMark2's in my studio. Just purchased a new laptop 17 1/2 in screen, quad core, 4 gigs of ram. I was able to use tethered capture using Windows XP Pro and EOS Utility, Now I find out that Canon does not support this camera under Windows 7 64bit.
Checked further and the 5D is not supported also.
I don't like the feel of the 5DMark2 nor do I need video.
It's down to the 50D or the 7D, like the feel of the 7D, but again I don't really need video.
Should I bite the bullet and get the 7D anyway.
All suggestions welcome.
I use tethered capture in my studio 100%.

Have you tried XP emulation in Windows 7?

Why not use Adobe Lightroom3 which has teathered capture built in an works fine under Win7 x64.

Also as suggested Virtual XP under Win7 will run just about any old program. The problem you may have is that while x64 will run most 32 bit programs it will not run older 16bit programs. But virtual XP is a full XP operating system and I have several old mission critical programs I run using it with no problems.

+1 over here for both points. I run XP virtual machines is it is fine. The only thing is that certain drivers seem to run off 7 even in XP mode and may not work (printers and odd things)

I would try the compatiblity mode. If that doesn't work I would change the OS before I ever thought about dropping a few grand on a new body LOL.

That's just crazy go get yourself virtual pc or vmware if you must and just install a Windows XP 32 bit on it and run it over your 64 Bit Windows 7 box.

Don't buy a new body that's totally uncessarry. I'm very suprised the software dosen't work on 64bit Windows 7 machines. Have you asked canon when they plan on releasing a new version to support this?
