I know the feeling you are having with the manual, the book is physically too small and consequently seems very hard to digest. Do what I did and download a copy from the Canon web site, print it out on A4 paper and either bind it like a proper book or put it in a folder. Honestly, this will make it easier to read and understand, that is with the proviso that you understand the subject matter (and when you don't you come on here and search for tips, tutorials and threads discussing said subject or post a question for the extremely helpful experts here to help). It really is the best book available for the camera, but don't try and do it all at once. Read a bit, go try what you have just read, check results and if you're happy, move on to the next section, if not go back and re-read it or ask on here. Most importantly, don't put too much pressure on yourself, it's supposed to be fun!!
![]() As you are reading about exposure, try what you are learning there by putting your camera into Av or Tv mode and experiment with the settings there. There are more tips and tutorials available on Canons web site but, in all honesty, I have found this site far more rewarding as things tend to be written in a much easier way to follow. Sorry for the long post but I know how you feel as I was there a short while ago and I wanted you to know it will pass and really it won't take too long.

I also just upgraded from a point and shoot to this wonderful Camera. I picked up this book Amazon.com: David Busch?s Canon EOS Rebel T1i/500D Guide to Digital SLR Photography (First… and am reading it right now.
Lots of useful info and it explains the Camera and all it's functions in depth. -- Squints |

I picked up this book today, and so far, it looks fantastic. Exactly what I was looking for. They didn't have any of the other books recommended in this thread at my local store.
