All the talk about image quality on the 50D (noise mainly) vs full frame (5D i&II) leaves me wondering...
What happens to the image quality if you shoot at the 7.1M level (medium setting) and have less density across the new APC sensor. Obviously not for huge prints, but for up to A4 prints and web use, it might be interesting especially at higher ISO levels I can't track much down using google (didn't try too hard) and have not tested it yet on my own camera What do the wizzkids here think? If you shoot RAW, nothing.
If you shoot JPG, what happens is the camera downsamples. It can be good, but youre better off with more information than less. Always get the most information you can: if you need to downsample, then do it.

Shooting at "lower resolution" won't reduce the noise. You're not actually physically changing the size of the photosites. You're just having the in-camera processor resize the photo after it's taken. You could do the same "noise reduction" by reducing the size in post.
