Went to Ritz Camera here in Mich, and was told that Ritz No Longer carrys Cannon.
I was told by them that they handle to many Names and had to drop some, cannon being one. I for one do not believe this. Anyone know the real Reason.

It is my understanding when RITZ went bankrupt the amount they owed Canon was enormous. Rumor had it the amount was more than the total owed all other suppliers combined. Canon cut them off. The no longer have the credit to stock stuff in retail outlets. They do still carry stuff mail order where they can pay COD

ouch. times must be tough..

on a slightly different note... its incredible to see how in one particular chain store here.. they sell canon like its the best thing on earth. i swear they must have a significantly higher profit margin.

back when i was trying to pay for my D80 ...they stil tried to make me buy a 450D. i had to be quite stern and tell them i wasnt interested.. and i wanted this camera.. hence my position at the checkout counter.

this weekend i was returning a faulty item & i saw a girl holding a D5000, the sales rep says.. "i'll show you this one, its much beter value" ...walks over to the Canon section.

....the D300s they had on display was listed as 15Mp and NZ$1200 more than what i paid... unbelievable

Are they an Authorized Nikon Dealer (as per Nikon's site)? If so, I'd get some photographic evidence and lodge a formal complaint with Nikon. That'll get changed right quick. If they do it for other manufacturers too, and are authorized by those, do the same. Anything that is incorrect or misleading.

they probably ARE authorised... they have dozens of stores around the country.. as well as in Australia.
i was about to say something but figured the kid behind the counter would just argue with me. so couldnt really be bothered.. he was too busy selling canon stuff.

i reckon it was in in-store printout to justify the insane price

Here's the thing: there are some pretty strict criteria that have to be fulfilled for them to be able to list themselves as "authorized" dealers. If they're not following up on their end of the bargain, they can have that taken away from them, which makes their life a living hell if they ever need to get anything from Nikon. Not that they would care, it seems.

This is most certainly a case of the reps making more money selling one brand vs. another. Could be a spiff or something on that brand.

And, quite frankly, although there are strict criteria for stores to be authorized dealers, it's also VERY difficult for their dealership status to be pulled--especially if they sell a LOT of equipment. At the end of the day Nikon only cares whether they sell gear. I'd venture to guess they still sell plenty of Nikon gear if they have that many stores. I seriously doubt Nikon would pull them if someone complained about this.
