Default 50mm vs. 85mm

Hi, I'm looking to purchase a new lens and have narrowed it down to the 50mm f/1.2 or the 85mm f/1.2, but I'm having a hard time deciding between the two...any insight Thanks for your help.

Would help to know what you are planning to do with it, and what model you are putting it on... There is (of course) a huge difference of each lenses characteristics on a 1.6 crop verses a full frame, etc.

MrCoffee is right. Need to know more about what you're doing. However, I do know, the 85mm f1.2 is one of the best lenses in Canon's lineup.

85L is the most common advice you'll get on photography boards where this kind of thing is argued.

Just google "50L focus shift".

The Holy Trinity of Canon L Portrait Primes is the 35L, 85L, and 135L. Note the skipping over of the 50L.
