PLEASE help. i'm desperate. canon rebel xs shooting wonky neon colours!

it gives me an error 99 message saying reinsert battery, switch on/off, etc.

but even worse, it shoots inverted wonky solarized colours!

i have a shoot tomorrow and i am depending on this camera!

i have no idea what to do. i cleaned the contact sensors on the lens (it's not the lens, btw - it happens with more than one lens), formated the SD card i'm using, and updated the firmware.

the camera is only about a year old.

needless to say, i'm panicking.

It's really hard to say without examples.

Rent another camera for the shoot.

It sounds like the sensor's gone bad on the XS.

According to the specs, operating temperature is from 0 - 40 celcius ( 32 - 104 F). I've used mine below 0C, very careful about condensation, but it never gets to 40C in my place so I have no experience with that.

After a bit of searching, I found someone that had the same problem. They sent it into Canon for repair, was told it was a "program fault in the circuit board" and they paid a flat rate of $190 US to have it fixed. Try calling Canon and see what they tell you.

You may have to borrow or rent a camera for tomorrow or reschedule your shoot.

On the bright side, Canon repair is very efficient and you should have it back soon. I had my camera give me problems less than 2 weeks before a wedding. They had it back to me in less than a week.

so, believe it or not - i left it in an air-conditioned room for about 3 days and it seems to be completely back to normal. luckily, i was able to move the shoot to next week.

i've been reading up on heat conditions and condensation within the camera. perhaps this was somehow the issue, considering it was in my very warm, humid room.

thanks for your replies.

If you're living somewhere very humid, you may want to consider building a dry box for your gear. Aside from shorts in the circuitry, fungus is another big deal when it comes to camera gear. Most people use some kind of airtight container with silica gel or other dessicant.
