Anyone as upset as me that the camera companies, including Canon have eliminated the Viewfinder on all point & shoots under $450? This is an outrage, since no matter how good the LCD, when it's sunny behind and glare, the LCD is washed out and the shot is missed. How much could an optical viewfinder cost? Seems to me the engineers and people running the camera companies are asleep and don't use their own products and don't realize how important the viewfinder is. Hopefully, enough people will complain that the viewfinder will mske a comeback soon.

The only time I really miss the optical viewfinder is when my battery's getting low and I don't have a spare. That's why I keep a spare battery with me at all times. Most of the time the P&S viewfinders didn't correct for parallax, and weren't even close to 80% scene coverage, and were often obscured by the lens when it was extended (this pretty accurately describes the ovf on my G9, which I almost never use). Less than optimal. And you get all that metering data and exposure simulation when you use LiveView.
I also wish that they'd leave optical viewfinders in P&S cameras, but I can understand why they're disappearing. Why not simplify, reduce parts, and regain valuable space inside the case for other circuitry/features if only the oldtimers care a damn about having it? They can just sell you an EVIL camera and get you to pay an additional $100 to add an OVF back onto the camera. For every focal length you use.
