Question IS canon 1000D a good DSLER for a starter?

I've been using various point and shoot cameras all these years and been able to carry out my love for street photography with good results. Though I have always thought if you have a good nac for photoraphy then cameras dont matter, offlate ive realised these dont really suffice my need.

Someone suggested an entry level Canon 1000D and fits my budget too. Will i be compromising too much by picking up this one or does it have the space to upgrade later if i want to with beter lenses on the same body.
looking forward to advices to make up my mind...

mahesh

I'm using 1000D and I absolutely love it. It's great for beginners. It has all the features that you might need (to a certain extent of course) and compatible with all Canon's EF-S and EF lenses and any 3rd party manufacturer's EOS compatible lens.

A great lens IS more important than a great body.

Hello Mahesh

I use canon 1000D camera. I am also a beginner. Technically I may not be able to answer your question but I like the colour quality and ease of use.

Just a thought, but you say your specialty is street photography. A lot of street photographers these days actually prefer P&S or micro-4/3 (or other EVIL) cameras to dSLRs, simply to avoid being conspicuous and changing the demeanor of their subjects. A dSLR is big and conspicuous and has notably larger lenses--every time you press the shutter button you can't do it silently. dSLRs tend to make people more uncomfortable and to make the photographer more noticeable. If you interact directly with the people you shoot, then a dSLR is a good choice, but otherwise, it may not.

I'd recommend also taking a look at the Olympus E-PL1, the Canon S90, and the Canon G11.

you are right and thats probably the reason i never took on to DSLR all these years...now wanting to explore a lill further and experiment with other stuff too...i use a canon S90 too...
just that my internal urge to play with manual settngsand experiment is whats brought this thought...

My first DSLR was a 1000D with two zoom lenses and I love it, and still use it almost every day eventhough I now also have a 550D as well.

I used to use canon 1000d and I can say that it is very good. It is good for newbies who are looking for new camera to play with.
