Hi,
I have a very old Cosina CS1 camera with a lens kit of vivitar lenses (25-300) but now I have baught a canon EOS400D last year so can I use the old lens kit with this camera? Also I have 2x and 4x converters. can I use that old kit for my new camera? Thanks in advance. Ameyask |

Canon EOS lenses use the "EF" connection - I don't know if your Cosina camera uses the same mount, but I think it's unlikely. In that case, you might have to look for an adaptor to connect Cosina-mount lenses to your Canon, but I don't know if they're (widely) available.

I may be wrong, but I believe Cosina used the Pentax K mount, so it should be possible to find an adapter. In any case, searching Google for "Cosina to EOS adapter" might find something.

Ask Inkista. She's been adapting things to EOS for ages and will be your best ressource.

The Cosina does indeed use Pentax K-mount.
Look for "k-mount to EOS adapter", they run around $15 on ebay. They work fine (you'll still have infinity focus) but you'll lose autofocus and aperture control. The first isn't so important but the second can be; you'll be locked wide open if your lens doesn't have an aperture ring. With the adapter, any k-mount lenses will work fine on your camera. The older bayonet lenses will not interfere with your mirror (they would if you have a full-frame body). The converters should be the same mount so they would go on your adapter and then the lenses should mount to them, no problem. But, since you'll be stop-down metering, if you're using an adapter with narrower apertures the viewfinder can get very dark. |

It's actually not that big of a deal. You compose and focus with the lens wide open, then stop down before you take the shot. Obviously, a manual focus lens isn't great in fast-action situations.
![]() The other side effect of shooting with no electrical connections between your lens and the body is that your EXIF information ends up with empty fields for the data usually supplied by the lens: most notably, focal length and the aperture settings. Also, you won't have autofocus confirmation.

To shoot with those lenses you need to use AV or M mode, either way the aperture number will remain 00.

The CS1 that ameyask is asking about is indeed k-mount.
