Default EOS 1000d shutter does not release

ive just bought a canon eos 1000d, but it seems that there is something wrong with it. after focusing and when its ready to shoot, the shutter button is pressed but nothing happens, it just refuses to do its job. but sometimes it works, i think it works randomly. does anyone know what is wrong with the camera? its not the lens because i tried another lens which works fine on another camera and it still had the same problem.

the firmware is the newest, which is 1.0.6. so i dont think i can upgrade that. could anyone please help me?

What were the circumstances for the shot? Low light? How far was the subject? What was the subject? what focusing mode were you using?

The reason I ask is that most dSLRS have a lockout so that the camera doesnt fire if it cant achieve focus lock. If your camera cant focus (for whatever reason), then it wont trip the shutter.

its random, not based on any circumstances, both manual and autofocus. when it happens it has been able to focus well confirmed with the beep and the focus confirmation sign on the bottom right in the VF. but then when i press the shutter it wont do anything.

ill try looking at the manual page 53, thanx, and the shooting mode isnt on self timer but one shot.

Have you tried switching to shooting in full Manual mode?

In most of the auto modes, the camera won't shoot if focus lock isn't achieved, or you're trying to go beyond the max of the camera's limits (i.e., you've set shutter-speed priority, but the aperture you need for correct exposure is much large than the lens will let you achieve, and the targeted shutter speed can't be reached--so no go).

Manual mode takes the nanny guardrails off, and lets you shoot yourself in the foot all you want. Not in focus? Who cares. Underexposed? Right on.

If you prefer having all the nanny-naggy stuff, then check out if anything's blinking at you in the viewfinder when the camera balks at taking the shot. Whatever's blinking is probably what needs to be "fixed" before the camera will let you take the shot.

All I can say is that I've taken at least many hundreds of shots with mine since I got it about a month ago, and there have been times, with different settings I'm tinkering with, that it won't shoot because it can't achieve what the settings are asking it to do. Other than that, if it's not because of settings, just take it to a good camera store and see if it's in need of repair...With any luck, it's still under warranty...Good luck! I'd love to hear how it turned out for ya, given we share the same camera!

I'm having the same issue. Were you able to resolve this problem?
