Default XSI vs T1i

Hello, I am in the market for my very first dSLR and have found myself uncertain which I want to go with. I've been looking at both the XSI and the T1i and am honestly unsure what the difference between these two are?! In all honesty it could be that I do not know DSLR's all that well yet and am not seeing the obvious, but as a main thing I've noticed being the difference is the T1i has the ability to do the HD videos and is the newer of the two?

I hope this doesn't sound completely newcomer here , but I would appreciate any help and advice you could offer. Basically any suggestions or advice on starting out would be great!

Thanks!

You're mostly right about the HD video and being newer. Although you will want to note that the T1i's HD capability is really 720p, as the 1080p mode is restricted to 20 fps. The T2i can do 30fps in 1080.

But other big additional features are the higher iso setting of 3200 (and the additional 6400 and 12800 "pushed" settings), high resolution LCD display, and a more advanced autofocus system.

The dRebel line models are mostly incremental tweaks of the same basic camera. The "inheritance" goes:

Digital Rebel -> XT -> XTi -> XSi -> T1i -> T2i.

The main differences between the XSi and T1i are encapsulated in dpreview's T1i review, in the "What's New?" page. And here's their side-by-side. And here's the page showing the differences between the T1i and T2i.

Thank you very much for the help and info. I think I'm going to go with the T1i. I'm excited to start playing with it and learning more!
