OP, if you worry about upgrading then you're never going to be satisfied. I've seen great photos done with a Canon XS. What you need to worry about is a good collection of lenses and proper/effective lighting.

If you want affordable, the 7D is a good option. Read a lot of the reviews out there: there are loads of lab tests and field reviews. I recommend DPReview, Cameralabs.com and ThePhoblographer.com.

Also keep in mind that the 5D Mk II is probably more than you'll ever need with fast primes or L lenses. Most of your clients will probably never want more than 21MP and if you shoot that high then you can always do minor noise reduction in Photoshop.

Keep in mind that this will also save you loads of cash over time.

So unless you're looking to qualify for Canon CPS, you don't always have to have the latest and greatest.
