i am a beginner in photography. I have Canon EOS 1000D with EF 18-55mm lens.People have advised me that now I should go for 55-250mm lens. Is it right? I mainly do landscape, portrait or abstract photography. I have started this hobby since last 2 months. Is it too early to go for it?

Hi. Welcome to DPS.
I'm new at photography but maybe this will help. I used the kit lens, Canon 18-55 mm, for about 8 months before I even thought about buying a new one. I got Canon 50 mm and Consina 19-35 mm wide angle my short range and long range shots. ![]() All comes down to what you trying to do and how much $$ you have.

If you can't get the shots because your 18-55 is getting in your way, then it's probably time to consider if a new lens would help, but I'd also say given your subject matter that the 50/1.8 II might be a better second buy than the 55-250 IS. Focal length ain't everything. There's a reason the max. aperture is the other main lens number.

I have had the 18-55 and the 55-250 since I got my camera over a year ago. I also bought a 50d from my brother as a backup camera. I use them both interchangeably on both cameras. I am happy with both of them. When I get a new lens I will probably get another wide angle lens.
